Malawi’s industrious female entrepreneur, philanthropist and business magnet, big hearted Triephornia Mpinganjira, who has embarked on a mission to financially uplift young Malawians to the embers of poverty to pockets of success, says the youth in the country have the potential to grow if given an opportunity.
Wife to one of Malawi’s enterprising business mogul, Dr. Thomson Mpinganjira, madame Mpinganjira then implored people in the country to embrace the spirit of giving to others whenever God blesses them.
“I decided to financially uplift young Malawians with good business plans by helping them with some capital to set themselves off.
“Let us help others when God has blessed us. The little we can help others with can go a lot way in making a great in other people’s lives,” Mrs. Mpinganjira said.
She made the remarks Tuesday in Lilongwe during a ceremony where the first winner of her programme to financially uplift young Malawians ,was announced and received K1 million for her business.
Mrs. Mpinganjira dilvuged that she decided to help ambitious young Malawians who wants to do business realise their dreams by giving those who have a viable, profit-making and practicable business plan an opportunity to access a staggering K1 million as a start-up capital.
She added that most of the business ideas they are receiving are similar and after the project they will form groups inorder to reach out to those who participated.
21-year old Chikondi Kamwendo from Bangula in Nsanje District is the first winner of the Triephornea Mpinganjira initiative called ‘Kuthandiza omwe alibe kuthekera.’
Kamwendo, whose business idea is to buy and sell farm produce, dropped out of thecUniversity due to lack of school fees.
Speaking after receiving a cheque of K1 million, an elated Kamwendo said she plans to open a farm store at Bangula where she will be selling maize, millet and beans at an affordable price.
She said: “My projection is that I will make more than K2.5 million, which I will invest back into the business until the second year where I will use part of the profits to return to school,” said Kamwendo.
Originally, it was planned that the first winner of the KUTHANDIZA OMWE ALIBE KUTHEKELA KUPITA PATSOGOLO project on April 14th, 2024.
However, due to the overwhelming response and Mrs. Mpinganjira’s unwavering commitment to reviewing each application thoroughly, they decided to shift the announcement date.
To accomplish this, Mrs. Mpinganjira and her team took extra time to physically visit potential candidates in their own homes.
“I am pleased to announce that I have had received thousands of applications for the project. This, in my opinion, demonstrates the level of dedication and passion that young people in the country have in pursuing an entrepreneurial route. I am really honored,” she said.
More than 39,000 applications were recieved in the first segment of the programme.
