Malawi’s kaleidoscopic afro-pop genius singer and multi-award creative songwriter, Onesimus, has hit a ground-breaking record in his music game after his hit-song “Controller” smashed 100 ticktock views.

Onesimus, whose real name is Armstrong Kalua, but trade under the moniker, African Butter has taken the music world by a storm with his latest composition which has attracted a global response.

From mindblowing funny dance challenges to lip-syncing videos, users worldwide have embraced African Butter’s danceable and heart-soothing beat, turning it into a global sensation.

The Malawi music industry has long faced challenges in gaining international recognition. Limited resources, infrastructure, and exposure have hindered artists from reaching wider audiences.

However, “Controller” defies those constraints and against all odds, it sailing in the global oceans.

Controller’s viral success demonstrates that talent knows no boundaries and that Malawi musicians are now competing on a global stage.

Recently one of the biggest African music superstar, Nigerian sensational artist Rudebwoy, Paul Okoye, one-half of one of the world’s music greats, P Square, posted a TikTok video of his wife vibing to Onesmus’ song.

Onesimus Muzik’s achievement inspires other Malawian artists to dream big.

TikTok, as a global platform, allows artists to connect directly with fans worldwide.

With this global success, Onesimus has just deservedly put himself on the map and on the spotlight for record labels and investors to dive into the virgin pool of Malawian talent.

In an interview, the Solomon hitmaker said: “I am very grateful to God for the talent and all the people from different countries across the globe for the support.”

Onesmus said his new wave of global success is a win not only for him but for the whole country and generations to come.

100 million views and still counting

“God is just using me to open the gates for others. This is a win for Malawi. I urge all creatives to work hard knowing that it is possible to make it out there.

“I am proud of what we are achieving out there. Malawi has so many great musicians and I humbly our people to continue supporting us,” said the African Butter.

Born on April 29, 1990, Onesimus started singing at the age of 13 in the commercial city of Blantyre.

Residing in Chilobwe township, his love and passion for singing grew yonder as he performed at different concerts around his community in Malawi.

Apart from singing, Onesimus also has passion for dancing as he first gained expression at the age of 17 when his dance group God’s soldiers won the Sprite competition in 2006.

The Why do me so singer, Onesimus, discovered his love for lyrics in 2008 when he joined the rap group called Blessed Beyond Measure which was also known also BBM Clique, dropping tracks such as By MySide and Random Thoughts with the outfit.

Onesimus, then known as Armstrong, was to venture into a solo career soon after, working on an unreleased hip-hop mixtape called Beyond Limits for a year in 2009 before he found his true calling, music.

Controller visualiser has raked in over a million views just after 12 days.

Armstrong started singing secular music in 2010 and finally released two singles: Beautiful featuring award-winning Malawian rapper Young Kay who has now rebranded himself as Mfumu Hyphen and “Without Your Love” which landed him a coveted deal with the record company ‘Nde’feyo Entertainment’.

Almost instantly, thereafter, he began his tour in Malawi under the stable in 2011.

He dropped an R&B mixtape titled ‘BRB’ in 2012 and – in the same year – dropped his debut Afro R&B album: “Ndele”.

Onesimus, who has had a stint with Major 1 records owned by Prophet Sherperd Bushiri has won several international awards and his music seems going only one way, international.
