Malawi’s France-based international football export, Tabitha Chawinga has won the 2024 D1 Arkema Golden Boot after bagging 19 goals for Paris Saint Germain (PSG).

It has been an eventful year loaded with success for the Scotchers captain who has twice been named female footballer of the season in the French Division One League.

However, it has been bittersweet for her as her team, PSG has failed to clinch the title after a 2-1 defeat to Lyon in a do or do final encounter of the playoffs where she netted the consolation goal.

This incredible feat comes barely a week after the left nimble-footed Chawinga was awarded the UNFP Trophy for Best Player of the Season.

She was also named the D1 Arkema Player of the Season and secured a spot in the team of the season during her debut campaign on loan to Paris Saint Germain.

The Malawi female national team goalscoring machine and skipper was also named as the Player of the Season in both the Chinese Women’s Super League in 2018 and 2019 – back when she was plying her trade for Jiangsu Suning – and in Serie A in 2023 with Inter Milan.

She was also named Player of the year and awarded the golden boot in Sweden in 2016 and 2017.

Chawinga started playing football when she was just five in Rumphi district but later joined DD Sunshine football club in Lilongwe.
