Spurred by the greater need for the appreciation of the importance of the preservation of cultural heritage in the country, Malawi’s leading home-grown commercial bankers, FDH Bank plc has donated K15 million for Umthetho Cultural Festival currently being held at the foot of Hora Mountain in Mzimba District.
The Umthetho Cultural Festival, which is an annual event, started on Thursday August 1st and will wind up on Saturday, August 3rd 2024.
FDH Bank plc head of communications and marketing Levie Nkunika, speaking when he presented the cheque in Blantyre earlier this week, said the bank appreciates the importance of cultural events.
Said Nkunika: “The event is important because it promotes and preserves cultural heritage and cultural diversity in Malawi and the region and it also promotes tourism.”
He said as a home-grown bank, FDH Bank considers the event as a symbol of a progressive society and leadership committed to developing and unifying its people.
Umthetho Cultural Festival 2024 organising committee member Sangwani Hara thanked the Malawi Stock Exchange-listed bank for the financial support.
He said they approached several organisations and the bank responded positively.
“This shows that the bank cares for its communities.”
Hara said: “On behalf of the organisation, we are very grateful.”
He said the guest of honour for the event is the reigning King of the Zulu nation Misuzulu Sinqobile kaZwelithini of South Africa and the Malawi President, Dr. Lazarus Chakwera is expected to attend the event on Saturday.
Guests for the event will come from South Africa, Zambia, Kenya, Tanzani and Zimbabwe, among other countries.
