Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) is in dire need of K2 billion to complete the construction of its purpose-built laboratory on its main campus in Thyolo district, it has been declared.

MUST board chairperson, Dr. Matthews Mtumbuka, made the revelation on Saturday when the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament visited the university to appreciate some of the development projects under construction.

Dr. Mtumbuka, who is an accompolished engineer, says the laboratory, which is nearing completion, is essential for enhancing scientific research and innovation.

Dr. Mtumbuka said: “We need at least K2 billion to complete a top-of-the-range laboratory at the main campus in Thyolo which when completed will go a long way in making these easier.”

Dr. Mtumbuka: We need K2 bilion to complete the lab.

Dr. Mtumbuka further said the new laboratory will provide students with a cutting – edge learning environment and will be equipped with modern facilities and equipment.

Vice Chairperson for the Committee, Ned Poya, Member of Parliament for Zomba Ntonya pledged to lobby for further funding to ensure the laboratory is completed to the highest standards.

Poya: We will ensure that the lab is completed.

“The completion of this laboratory will not only benefit the students but also contribute to the advancement of science and technology in our country,” Poya said.

Poya commended the engineers responsible for completing the laboratory for their dedication and expertise in bringing the project to life.

“We need at least K2 billion to complete the laboratory.”
