The Presidential Charity Golf Committee has, thus far, raised half a billion Kwacha K500 through donations from various companies and organisations in the country, it has been announced.

The committee’s chairperson Boyd Luwe disclosed this when Sunbird Hotels and Resorts donated a cheque of K5 million on Monday at Sunbird Capital Hotel.

Said Luwe: “We had set a target of K600 million this year after successfully collected K480 million last year. The reason for the increase is to support more needy students.

“We are still behind as we need to raise K100 million to reach our target.

He added: “We are still calling on more companies and organisations to chip in.”

The Charity Golf Tournament is scheduled to start this Friday, October 11th and end on Sunday, October 13th at the Limbe Country Club in Blantyre.

Sunbird’s Head of Marketing and Distribution, Temwa Kanjadza, revealed that they decided to support the initiative because its aim is to assist needy university students and people affected by Tropical Cyclone Freddy.

Chairperson of the Fundraising Committee, Luwe, praised Sunbird for its support.

Luwe thanked all organisations that have contributed to the cause and encouraged other organisations who haven’t yet donated in order for them to hit the target to raise K600 million.

“We are still calling on more companies and organisations to chip in.”
