The country’s Central Bank, the Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM), the official sponsors of the current super league champions, Silver Strikers, popularly known as the Bankers, has challenged the Lilongwe football giants to maintain superiority in the elite football league in order to stay atop in the game in Malawi and beyond the barricades of the borders.
The newly minted RBM Governor Dr. McDonald Mafuta Mwale has challenged Silver Strikers to engage an extra gear next season and win more silverware.
Dr. Mafuta Mwale made the call during the club’s awards gala at Sunbird Capital in the capital, Lilongwe on Saturday.
Said Dr. Mafuta Mwale: “Silver is one of the clubs that has everything, so they have no excuse not to perform. We expect them to do much better next season.”

The RBM boss further challenged the Bankers to, among others, defend the TNM Super League title and fight for an international spot.
“Having won the league last season, all the other teams will come hard on us, so we need to up our game,” the Reserve Bank chief said.
Dr. Mafuta Mwale, therefore, promised the Bankers for continued support emphasising that they will bankroll the team’s participation in the 2025/26 CAF Champions League.
“We want Silver to becom one of the best in the region and our motivation stems from the team’s organisation and performance.
“To that effect, We have challenged them to recruit players both locally and abroad,” said Dr. Mafuta Mwale.

Silver Strikers Company Limited board chairperson Dr. George Kaudza Masina said they are looking to the future with determination and optimism.
Dr. Kaudza Masina said: “With new players, a renewed technical panel and the unwavering support of our fans and stakeholders, I am confident that Silver Strikers will continue to shine as a beacon of excellence in Malawian football.”
“Our vision remains clear: to dominate locally, compete regionally, and inspire globally. Together, we will achieve this,” added Kaudza Masina.
Dr. Kaudza Masina said that Silver Strikers is more than just a football club but a culture and a family.
“It is a family, a legacy, and a symbol of excellence. The recent past season has reminded us of the values that define us: teamwork, resilience, and an unrelenting pursuit of greatness.”

During the ceremony, the central bank, which is the club’s main sponsor, bought the team’s new replica jersey at K1 million.
During the awards, midfielder Chimwemwe Idana was named Player of the Season, McDonald Lameck won the Best Defender Award, the Best Goalkeeper Award went to George Chikooka, Binwell Katinji won the Best Striker Award while Chinsisi Maonga was named the most improved player.
Chikondi Gondwe won the women’s team Player of the Season and Top Goal Scorer awards.
Silver Strikers Football Club is a Malawian professional football club
based in Lilongwe, currently playing in the country’s elite tier, The TNM Super League, the top division of Malawian football.
The club was founded in 1977 as a social team for staff at the the Central Bank.
