Malawi National Football Team, the Flames, has been thrown into the Lions Den as they are placed in tough Group B of the 2025 HollywoodBets COSAFA Cup in Mangaung (Bloemfontein), South Africa, from 4 June to 15 June 2025.

This is Malawi’s return to the tournament since 2023.

Flames’ group consists of COSAFA defending champions Angola, Namibia and Lesotho.

Flames assistant Coach, Peter Mponda, said his charges are ready to compete.

“These are good teams,” Mponda said. “Anybody can win.”

Mponda: Anybody can win.

Hosts, South Africa, in Group A, are together with Mozambique, Mauritius and Zimbabwe.

The guest nation is Morocco, and they are in Group C, including Madagascar and Eswatini. Zambia is in Group D with Comoros and Botswana.

The top team in each pool advances to the semi-finals, with the winner of Group A to face the top side in Group D, and the leading team in Group B up against the top team in Group C.

“These are good teams. Anybody can win.”
