FDH Bank plc has lifted the temporary suspension of its sports sponsorships following engagements with the Super League of Malawi (SULOM) and other key stakeholders.

The Bank suspended all its sports sponsorships in April 2026 following a dispute involving the Super League of Malawi (SULOM) and the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) over the failed launch of the 2026 football season at Kamuzu Stadium.

In a statement released on Monday, FDH Bank plc said the decision marks a renewed commitment to supporting the growth of sports in Malawi and that the discussions with the key stakeholders provided an opportunity to reflect, realign, and reaffirm the principles that will guide its partnerships going forward.

“As a home-grown and proudly Malawian Bank, we believe that sport is a powerful tool for national development, economic empowerment, social cohesion, and talent development,” reads the statement.

FDH top brass: William Mpinganjira, one of the decision makers at FDH Group including the FDH Bank.

The Bank added that sport provides a platform for athletes to compete and excel at various levels.

FDH Bank plc further said the resumption of sponsorships reinforces its long-standing commitment to Malawians and its role in supporting the development of sport in the country.

“We are committed not only to sustaining the current impact of sports, but also to helping build a stronger and more inclusive future for the next generation of athletes,” reads part of the statement.

The Bank said it remains committed to empowering communities and promoting sport as a unifying force for national progress.

The season opener was called off amid concerns over the venue’s readiness, with reports of poor coordination and the absence of match officials, which later triggered unrest among supporters.

The bank subsequently cited governance concerns and the negative impact of the incident on its brand and commercial interests as reasons for suspending its sponsorships pending a review.

“we believe that sport is a powerful tool for national development, economic empowerment, social cohesion, and talent development.”
