Gazette Media has supported the launch of the late veteran journalist Grey James Mang’anda’s autobiography, ‘Images of My Journalism Story’, saying the book will help preserve Malawi’s history and inspire future generations.
The autobiography was launched on Thursday at the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) in Blantyre, where journalists, academics, media practitioners, family members and other guests gathered to celebrate the late Mang’anda’s contribution to journalism.
Speaking during the launch, Gazette Media Chief Executive Officwer (CEO) and Lead Consultant, Mc Donald Chapalapata said the media organization supported the initiative because of its commitment to meaningful storytelling and preserving the experiences of Malawians for future generations.
“For us at Gazette Media, we believe that stories matter. They shape how societies understand themselves. They preserve history. They inspire young people,” he said.
Chapalapata encouraged young people to read the autobiography not only as the story of one man, but also as a source of lessons that can help them navigate their own journeys.
He also called on more Malawians to document their experiences, saying the country has many important stories that risk being lost if they are not recorded.
“Malawi has many extraordinary stories that remain untold. We need more books that capture the experiences of our leaders, professionals, entrepreneurs, community builders and ordinary citizens who have contributed to the development of our country,” he said.
Mang’anda’s first-born child, Mwai Mang’anda-Nyasulu, said the family was grateful to Gazette Media and other members of the Task Force for helping bring her father’s work back to life.
Nyasulu described the autobiography as much more than a collection of words on paper, saying it represents a part of her father that he left behind for his family and readers.
“The book speaks to the realities of growing up, finding oneself, making mistakes, learning from life and discovering one’s identity. I believe that many people who read this book will see a little bit of themselves in its pages,” she said.
Among many of Mang’anda’s achievements, he was one of the founding members of Misa Malawi Chapter.
“For us at Gazette Media, we believe that stories matter. They shape how societies understand themselves.”
