Buoyed by benevolence and the urgent sheer need for corporate social responsibility (CSR) in a bid to help the disadvantaged and the poor, the philanthropic Mpinganjira family, who owns a business conglomerate in the country have jointly donated a combined K10million to Lions Club International during its District Annual Convention Dinner through Diplomats Car Hire and Ekhaya Farm Foods.
The donation was made at a colourful event held at the Sunbird Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre, saw the two sister companies coming together to support a charitable cause as away of demonstrating their undying and unflinching commitment to giving back to the community.
The two Mpinganjira owned companies, the Diplomats Car Hire, one of the country’s leading car rental company, donated K5million and the country’s flagship chain stores, Ekhaya Farm Foods, a prominent food processing company, also contributed K5million to square it up to K10 million.
The Chief Executive Officers for the two sister companies Dr. Triephornia Mpinganjira and Miss Annabel Chikondi Mpinganjira, who are mother and daughter, presented the donation.
This generous donation will support Lions Club International’s humanitarian efforts in Malawi, focusing on education, health and community development.
This is not the first time the Mpinganjira family has shown their charitable and humanitarian spirit.
In her remarks, founding Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Diplomats Car Hire, Dr. Triephornia Mpinganjira said: “Life is not qualified by fluent English, branded clothes, or a rich lifestyle, it is measured by the number of faces who smile when they hear your name.”
On her part, Miss Annabel Chikondi Mpinganjira, the CEO of Ekhaya Group said the two sister companies saw it fit to help Lions Club International as they do a lot in pursuit to make the world a better place which resonates with the philosophies of the two sister companies.
Lions Club members are ordinary people who do extraordinary things to help others and support good causes throughout the world.
Globally, Lions Club have more volunteers in more places than any other service club organisation, and they exist to serve humanity with and strives to step forward to volunteer, help others and make things happen.
Dr. Triephornia’s hubby and Anabel’s dad Dr. Thomson Mpinganjira, the founding CEO and proprietor of one of the country’s leading home-grown financial group and commercial bank, the FDH Bank, has a long history of supporting various charitable initiatives, including education, healthcare programs and sports.
The Mpinganjira family companies have persistently and consistently demonstrated an unmatched commitment in making a positive impact on the lives of many suffering and disadvantaged Malawians.
The donation comes barely a day after the twin companies also donated K12million to the Malawi Red Cross Society.
