Malawi leading commercial banker, the bank of the nation, National Bank of Malawi (NBM) has donated 20 wheelchairs to the tune of K6 million to the Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) in Lilongwe to ease patients’ mobility at the country’s busiet medical facility.

Senior Manager Shadreck Malenga for the Malawi Stock Exchange listed financial institution, NBM, said they donated the wheelchairs to ease the challenge of transferring patients within the referral facility.

“We have donated the wheelchairs to help with patient’s mobility for those who struggle to walk when they arrive at the hospital,” he said.

Mulenga said NBM cares for the people in the community and always looks out to help people who need help.

“NBM is a caring bank,” he said.

Malenga adds they are looking forward to helping to improve health services in the country.

KCH Director Jonathan Ngoma said: “The donation will go a long way in helping to ease movement of patients within the hospital.”

He added: “Many patients find it difficult to walk and therefore, it becomes difficult for them to get the help they need in time and this is frustrating.

“These wheelchairs will make life easier for both the medical staff and the patients. We are grateful to National Bank of Malawi for this donation.”

According to Ngoma, the hospital is facing many challenges, saying it welcomes various donations from companies and individuals.

“NBM is a caring bank.”
