Home-grown financial powerhouse, FDH Financial Holdings Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) William Mpinganjira has urged Malawians to work together as one people to ensure the the success of the Malawi2063 Agenda through digital transformation.

Said Mpinganjira: “I believe platforms like these are critical in ensuring a progressive nation. We need to work together as a nation in order for us to realise the Malawi2063 vision.”

“Therefore. I implore Malawians to come together and unite in working hard towards achieving the success of Malawi2063 agenda through digital transformation,” added Mpinganjira.

Mpinganjira made the call at Bingu International Conference Centre (BICC) in Malawi’s capital, Lilongwe while moderating a panel discussion following a presentation by Dr. Chipo Kanjo on “Beyond MW63: Securing the Future of Digital Transformation” at the Symposium on Technology, Security and Development: Problems and Prospects organised by the National Defence College of Malawi and Malawi Communication Regulatory Authority (MACRA)

Dr. Chipo Kanjo, an Associate Professor in Computer Science and Deputy Academic Leader for Centre for Resilient Agri-foods Systems (CRAFs) at University of Malawi, in her presentation, focused on the current status of Malawi and what it needs to aspire to achieve digital transformation.

We need to unite as a people to achieve Malawi2063 Agenda: FDH Group CEO William Mpinganjira

Commenting on Mpinganjira’s remarks and moderation on LinkedIn, Jurist and legal and academic strategist Professor Brigadier General Dan Kuwali said: “Bill, job well done. You facilitated the session so well and stimulate the much needed debate. Your summary of key takeaways was spot, too.”

Added Professor Kuwali: “Thank you immensely for the support and looking forward to continued collaboration.”

The symposium panelists, among others, included Vice President of Council of African Space Agency at African Union and Chair of Malawi Space Agency Taskforce, Thandi Mbvundula, Special Projects Manager for ALX Africa, Isabel Kumwembe Steward, Policy Coordinator at ActionAid, Tusaiwe Sikwese and Product Manager at NICO Technology, Imelda Kandiero- Sabuni.

The Malawi 2063 (MW2063) expresses the country’s vision and aspirations for Malawians and envisions a youth-centric inclusive wealth
creating and self-reliant nation by the year 2063.

The panel discussion gave a platform for insights on strategies to ensure success of Malawi2063, policies to support implementation of Malawi2063, ALX programs that can have a positive impact on Malawi2063 and the role of Space Agency in enabling Malawi2063.

Malawi’s 2063 agenda for digital transformation is focused on building a digital economy to support the country’s goals of becoming a self-reliant, upper-middle-income nation by the year 2063.

Through a World Bank-funded project, Digital Malawi Project (DIGMAP) it is envisaged the southeast sub-Saharan nation will revolutionise Malawi’s digital landscape.

The first phase of DIGMAP has focused on equipping people with digital skills and providing seed funding to help them start businesses.

The tenets of MW2063 were identified through a substantively wide consultative process that involved representation of all stakeholders, including Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), private sector, academia, research institutions, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), political and traditional leaders, Faith-Based Organizations (FBOs), trade unions, development partners and the general public.

Further, MW2063 embodies the views and aspirations of various groups of people including women, the youth, persons with disabilities, those in diaspora and minority groups – the inclusive and participatory process of developing MW2063 ensures, and safeguards the national ownership of the development agenda that it articulates.

This will, in turn, ensure that the Vision is understood and accepted by the majority of our people and its implementation is spearheaded by all sectors, while at the same time bolstering the emerging democratic culture.

The process, therefore, offered a unique opportunity for all citizens to collectively reflect on past failures and, based on the lessons learnt, visualize how we can build a better Malawi.

“I implore Malawians to come together and unite in working hard towards achieving the success of Malawi2063 agenda through digital transformation.”
