Government of the Republic of Malawi has appointed Dr. Amos Msekandiana as the new Hospital Director at Kamuzu Central Hospital in (KCH) in the capital, Lilongwe with immediate effect.
Dr. Msekandiana, a renowned film actor, is a distinguished medical professional and is recognized as Malawi’s first endocrinologist and paediatric specialist.
He has held several prominent roles in the country’s healthcare sector, including serving as Country Director of Baylor College of Medicine.
He has also worked as a Clinical Senior Lecturer at Kamuzu University of Health Sciences and as a Senior Consultant at Kamuzu Central Hospital.
Dr. Msekandiana holds a bachelor’s degree in medicine and surgery from the College of Medicine, University of Malawi. He further earned a Master of Medicine in Paediatric Medicine and a Postgraduate Diploma in Tropical Medicine.
He is also a Fellow of the Paediatric Endocrinology Training Centre for Africa (PECTA), reflecting his expertise in the field.
Dr. Msekandianaa is a paediatrician and paediatric endocrinologist with interest in HIV endocrinopathies, Diabetes and other endocrine disorders such as Thyroid disorders and disorders of sex differentiation (DSDs).

Dr. Msekandiana, popularly known as Jaliwa from the movie Welcome to Maula Prison, will succeed Dr. Enoch, who has been redeployed to Mzuzu Central Hospital.
The appointment is expected to strengthen leadership at Kamuzu Central Hospital and enhance healthcare delivery in Lilongwe and surrounding areas.
Malawi’s healthcare sector continues to benefit from the experience of highly trained specialists like Dr. Msekandiana, who combine clinical expertise with leadership skills.
His leadership at Kamuzu Central Hospital comes at a time when the facility plays a critical role in providing tertiary healthcare services across the country.
The Ministry of Health has expressed confidence that Dr. Msekandiana’s experience and innovative approach will positively impact hospital management and patient care.
