Malawi’s most buzzing and kaleidoscopic afro-hip-hop rapper, songwriter and most decorated performer, Phyzix, is the country’s platinum and currently the undisputed highest-paid hip-hop artist.

The multi-award-winning rapper and lyrist, the Wife Material hitmaker, Phyzix, who is also a banker, marketer and entrepreneur is yet again in the limelight as a recipient of a K5 million mark in royalties from Copyright Society of Malawi (COSOMA).

Real name, Noel Chikoleka but is also widely known with stage monikers, Gamba wa Suit, Don Gamba, Captain Bae and Mountain Goat among others is one of Africa’s most nominated hiphop artist and the country’s only hiphop musician with 20 albums under his belt.

The development comes at the height of him riding at the popularity of his latest single, Kaliya, in which he is featuring musical newbies and up-and-coming music loyalties, the ultra-talented Loiso and silky smooth-voiced songbird, Kedarah.

This is also a testament that the Follow and Mwachibwana composer is still relevant and people from all walks of life and of all ages love his music.

Phyzix has stood the taste of time Music and since 2006 he has been consistently growing wings and has kept flying higher and higher in the music strasphere.

Speaking in an acceptance speech, the Cholapitsa hitmaker was quick to render gratitude towards both his fanbase and COSOMA as the awarding body.

“This is an encouraging development, and I am very much pleased to wear the crown of highest paid hip-hop artist in royalties from COSOMA. Such a feat signals that my kind of hip-hop is the hip-hop that resonates with my target audiences at a deeper level.

“By far, commercial music is about supply and demand. Thus, I strive to give my target audiences the best hip-hop possible,” said the Mwantiti star.

The Banker wotchuka lyrical creator and murderer has made a huge jump in his loyalties from last year, where he received K1.5 in royalties from COSOMA, a deep drive under the ladder from the previous year in 2022 where recieved K3 million.

Other artists that have received so much from Cosoma this year include Saint Realest and Driemo who have both pocketed K9million each respectively.

Namadingo and Eli Njuchi have received 8 million while Kell Kay, the late Soldier Lucius Banda has received K7 million.

It appears Phyzix has now found his mark and a knack for making hit after hit as he has recently released one banger after another.

Recently he has been featured on two hit songs and undeniable dance floor fillers – one titled “Slowly” by Lington Kaminho – a Portuguese-speaking Malawian based in Mozambique, province of Zambezia district of Milange which was produced by Tricky Beats.

The other song Millions, which also features Skipperank he has collaborated with rapper, IKK.

Surely, Phyzix is the most hardworking artist in Malawi as he has to juggle between being a banker and musician at the same time and his persistent pushing and pressing for success is paying dividends as he keeps riding on the waves of success.

He is a sensational artist who inspires his generation and an epitome of hard work.

Chikoleka’s major breakthrough came in 2006 after releasing his single titled “Cholapitsa” (The Boogeyman), for which he later shot a music video that topped charts in Malawi.

In 2008, Chikoleka started his own entertainment company, It’s Only Entertainment (IOE).

In 2009, he released his debut album titled The Lone Ranger LP, which had successful singles such as “Gamba”, “Abwana” “Jessie”, and “Usodzi”.

Chikoleka has won several Malawi Hip Hop Awards such as Artist of the Year (Male), Song of the Year (“Makofi”) and Album of the Year (Gamba Season).

“By far, commercial music is about supply and demand.”
