Lilongwe Area 2 Branch Team comprising Nadim Omar, Jamir M’manga, Michael Khomani and Bernard Ndau were crowned champions in the First Capital Bank (FCB) Invitational Golf Tournament held at Blantyre Sports Club (BSC) on Saturday.

The competition also marked the launch of the FCB Golf Tournament series, complementing the Bank’s recent construction of bridges at the club.

Playing off a combined handicap of nine, the quartet delivered an impressive three-under-par performance in the Mexican Scramble format, beating a competitive field of 88 golfers with a net score of 56.

Speaking after the win, team captain Omar attributed the victory to teamwork and effective coordination on the course.

“It was a true team effort. We worked well together throughout the round, enjoyed the game, and that unity made the difference as everyone contributed to the win,” he said.

The Dedza Branch Team finished runners-up, two shots behind the winners, edging the Lilongwe Branch side into third place with a net score of 58.

The Dedza quartet comprised Frank Jomo, Boniface Chima, Lui Jiango and Samuel Debwe, while Lilongwe was represented by Akbar Bhana, Shabir Patel, Nazir Omar and Tony Omar.

Both teams competed off an identical combined handicap of nine.

Speaking after the prize presentation, Blantyre Sports Club Chairperson Nathan Nkhata commended members for the strong turnout, noting that it was the first time the Mexican Scramble format had been played at the club.

“Although it was an invitational event, the turnout was impressive.

“The format promoted teamwork and interaction, making the game enjoyable, fast-paced and engaging,” he said.

In his remarks, FCB Head of Marketing and Communications, Twikale Chirwa, reaffirmed the Bank’s commitment to sports development in Malawi.

“As a Bank, we are proud to be associated with this club.

“Being rooted in Blantyre, we believe in strengthening the socio-economic fabric of the communities in which we operate, and this partnership with BSC reflects that commitment,” said Chirwa.

“It was a true team effort.”
