Malawi’s soccer governing body, The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) will, on Saturday, September 6, officially launch the National Bank Championship at Mangochi Stadium.
The competition, sponsored by the National Bank of Malawi Plc, will feature Division One League teams and district teams, providing a structured pathway for grassroots football development.
Under the format, winners from the district phase will advance to the regional stage where they will battle with Division One teams and the champions of the four regions — Eastern, Southern, Central, and Northern — will qualify for the national phase.
The national finals will have four teams that will contest in the semi-finals to determine the ultimate champions.

FAM’s Competitions and Communications Director, Gomezgani Zakazaka, described the Championship as a critical step in strengthening Malawi’s football pyramid.
“At the beginning of the season we revised the football structure and added districts Leagues to the pyramid. So we use the National Bank to roll out the Districts Leagues and teams will also be promoted from this league to Division one leagues.
”We will also train referees and administrators and referees in the districts to enhance effective management of our game in the rural areas,” he said
The launch in Mangochi will feature exciting football action between Mangochi All stars vs. Chawe Bullets, as well as entertainment, set the stage for what promises to be a historic competition.
