To ensure a smooth-run, free and fair tripartite elections next year, the National Initiative for Civic Education (NICE) in collaboration with the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) have announced the commencement of Phase one of voter registration.
The exercise is set to start on October 21, 2024 and will take place in 13 districts in the country.
NICE, therefore, is urging all eligible voters, particularly women and youths, to seize this opportunity and register in order for them to vote in next year’selections.
NICE publicist, Grace Hara said her organisation is committed to deepening democracy and good governance in Malawi through the provision of high-quality civic education.
Said Hara: “Elections are part of good governance and democracy. It is within our mandate to raise awareness and to mobilize people to take part in any electoral processes, including registration.”
Hara explained that registering to vote is not just a formality but a powerful expression of civic duty.
“Every registration represents a chance to influence Malawi’s future,” Hara emphasised.
NICE is conducting outreach initiatives, including community workshops, informational campaigns, and engaging events such as football bonanzas and market rallies.
She saaid Malawians are reminded to bring valid identification documents, such as national ID cards or National Registration Bureau receipts, to complete their registration.
